Black Men Build Futures — Black Men of Grace initiative
Black Men of Grace

BLACK MEN BUILD FUTURES™

THE SHODIPO~ASIMOLOWO FOUNDATION

Honoring hardworking Black men whose sacrifice becomes the foundation beneath another generation.

BLACK MEN BUILD FUTURES™

Across the African diaspora, generations of Black men have quietly built futures they may never personally inhabit.

They worked long hours.

They crossed oceans.

They endured discrimination.

They learned trades, built businesses, raised families, paid tuition, protected their homes, mentored young people and carried responsibilities that rarely made headlines.

And because they did

their children became physicians, attorneys, scientists, engineers, educators, entrepreneurs, tradesmen, artists and leaders.

Sometimes a Black man’s greatest accomplishment has somebody else’s name on the diploma.

BLACK MEN BUILD FUTURES™ | Black Men of Grace was inspired by stories like that of Judge Lynn Toler and her father, a hardworking Black father whose labor, expectations and sacrifice helped create extraordinary educational opportunities for his daughters.

But this initiative is much larger than one family.

It is about the millions of Black men whose names we may never know.

  • The sanitation worker who sends his daughter to medical school.
  • The immigrant father working two jobs so his children have choices.
  • The grandfather who becomes Dad.
  • The tradesman who teaches his son both a skill and discipline.
  • The brother who pays another brother’s tuition.
  • The teacher who recognizes brilliance in a boy everyone else has overlooked.
  • The mentor who reaches backward after succeeding and pulls another young man forward.
  • And the father who may have very little money to give but gives presence, structure, protection, wisdom, time and love.

OUR FIVE PILLARS

STRENGTH IN SACRIFICE

Recognizing the quiet sacrifices Black men make for their families and communities.

DISCIPLINE IN ACTION

Teaching boys and young men that responsibility, consistency and integrity create freedom.

EDUCATION IN REACH

Connecting young people to college, vocational education, skilled trades, entrepreneurship and lifelong learning.

OPPORTUNITY IN EVERY GENERATION

Helping one generation deliberately open doors for the next.

LEGACY THAT LASTS

Documenting the stories, lessons and contributions of Black fathers, grandfathers, brothers and mentors before those stories disappear.

AT DOVE ISLAND

The initiative comes alive through The Builders Table, an intergenerational gathering where Black men and boys sit together over food and speak openly about education, money, fatherhood, relationships, mistakes, mental wellness, work, masculinity, purpose and legacy.

No performance.

No pretending.

Just men teaching men what life taught them.

The Foundation will also develop Black Men’s Legacy Stories, preserving photographs, oral histories and short films about ordinary Black men whose lives produced extraordinary ripple effects.

And ultimately:

THE MEN WHO BUILT THE BRIDGE

An annual Black Men of Grace recognition honoring fathers, grandfathers, mentors, educators, workers and community builders whose contributions made another person’s future possible.

Celebrity is not a requirement.

We are looking for legacy.

HIS NAME MAY NOT BE ON THE DIPLOMA
HIS SACRIFICE IS ALL OVER IT.

We honor not simply what these men accomplished for themselves
but what became possible because they were here.

DON’T CHASE VALUE, BRING VALUE!!!

With Grace, We Go!!!
