Ricky’s Journey with ALS

When we first met Ricky, he was not simply another patient. He was a husband, a father, a provider, and a man determined to keep living life with purpose.

In April 2024, Ricky was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disease that gradually affects the body’s ability to move, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe. Despite receiving an initial prognosis measured in months, Ricky has continued to fight with extraordinary courage, resilience, and hope.

Today, I have the privilege of caring for Ricky as one of my patients.

Together, we continue to pursue comprehensive treatment focused on preserving function, maintaining independence, maximizing quality of life, and giving him every opportunity to continue living with dignity.

As part of his individualized treatment plan, Ricky is currently receiving stem cell therapy under my medical care as we continue exploring innovative approaches that may support his journey. While ALS remains a challenging disease with no known cure, our commitment is to provide compassionate, evidence-informed care while continually seeking opportunities that may improve quality of life.

Ricky’s story reminds us that a diagnosis should never define a person’s life.

It reminds us that behind every diagnosis is a family, a dream, a purpose, and a human being deserving of hope.

According to his GoFundMe campaign, Ricky has exhausted many of his personal resources while facing increasing expenses related to medical care, specialized treatments, mobility equipment, home modifications, transportation, and the daily realities of living with ALS. Through it all, his greatest desire remains simple: to continue fighting for more time with the people he loves.

His courage now inspires a movement dedicated to ensuring that no family walks this journey alone.
